Back in the Saddle

Well, I am trying to catch up after being out of the office all last week.  I certainly appreciate all the prayers for travel, safety, and spiritual strength and connection.  Our team had a good trip, but it is always good to get back home.

I have been reading through Job in my daily Bible reading lately and reading a chapter out of Piper’s Future Grace.  I have been captivated by that concept of Future Grace.  In essence, we as believers bank it all on future grace.  I generally am focused on present grace for right now right here; but when in pain or suffering or discouragement, it is the hope of a better tomorrow or in five minutes or next year or in heaven that gives us enough to hang in there.

For the Christ follower, the best is yet to come.  But it is also possible and actually probable that the worst in this life just might come also.  Now that worse that is yet to come will be trumped by the best that is yet to come always ultimately in heaven.  That’s where the future part of future grace comes in to play.   That is what makes it hope being that it is not here yet.  That is the nature of the Christ life.  We are saved by faith, walk by faith, and live by faith in a future grace or in a future that is better than our present.  This is the beauty of eternal security in that it’s a package deal that includes the finishing well, the future, or the eternity ahead that is guaranteed.  Without the guarantee, there is no future grace to bank on.

That’s what Job was counting on although he had no written word from God to look to.  In the midst of his difficulty with no explanations and no end in sight, he was committed to the One that he knew was so much more committed to him.  His hope was not in a present circumstance or situation, but rather in the goodness and grace of God. . .until next time. . .Wes

Day 4 in Belgium

We had a good worship service today.  It seems that about the time we begin connecting the meeting is over.  Our worship team continues to do the same great job.  Tomorrow is our last session then we pack up and begin the journey towards getting back home.  It has been good to be with our team and especially Jonathan.  It is always neat to visit with other laborers in the Gospel and to learn from them.  God is at work all around the world bringing His people to Himself.  This is the same region that our own John and Leslie Caubble served in before they joined the team of FBC Rogers.

God gave us an opportunity to go to Bastone today which is about an hour from where we are staying.  This is the location of the Battle of the Bulge which was the turning point in World War 2.  Mark called a great prayer supporter, Howarth Taylor from Hickory Ridge (Wynne).  Mr. Taylor fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  It was neat to talk with him while standing on the grounds where he fought for freedom against Hitler’s forces just over 60 years ago.  Below is a photo of the war memorial that is a tribute to all the states and armed forces divisions that secured the victory.

I don’t know if I will have an internet connection the next couple of days so it may be next week before I get back on the blog.  Until next time. . .Wes

Day 3 in Belgium

We journeyed to the Rhine River Valley today and saw two castles.  One named after the Most Rev. Mark Maier that being Marksburg.  It was exciting riding with Mark on the Audobon.  Our theology of eternal security is such a strength in times like this.  Below are Mark and Jonathan at our first castle.

We had a later worship service tonight beginning at 8 pm.  I think it went really well.  Continue to pray that God would use our efforts to serve and bless our m’s.  Pray for our state convention personnel made up our convention staff and children’s leaders from various churches in Arkansas as they take care of the children of the m’s and really serve them.  Western Europe is a difficult place to labor.  While there is much freedom of religion, there has been such an apathy and indifference in this culture towards the Gospel.  There are also many refugees from places with little or no access to the Gospel.  So they are accessible in Europe.  In some ways, this is one of our regions because of our work in Paris.  Better go, it is 11:30 pm here. . .until next time.  Wes

Second Day in Belgium

I had my first full day in Belgium today.  We had worship at 9:30 am this morning.  Our worship team did a fantastic job for the first day.  I preached then our team left to go sightseeing.  We went to Germany to Monchau and then to Cologne.  I have attached a photo of the group that makes up the team from FBC Rogers.  Let me encourage you to pray for our friends who serve in Western Europe.  Their labor field is difficult. Pray that we would encourage them during these few days and that God would turn the tide in this challenging place.  God is good and He still changes lives.

I have enjoyed visiting with our team members and some of our Western Europe team.  it is great to be involved with people who share in the partnership of sharing the Gospel.   It is getting late here so until next time. . .Wes

Made it to Belgium

We have all arrived safely and healthy in Belgium.  I cannot believe that I made my connecting flight in Chicago with only a 40 minute window on paper and then leaving 15 minutes late from XNA.  I have sure not made those connections before in Chicago.  I also navigated three different trains to make it to our Western Cluster meeting location.  I arrived a little later than the rest of our team that spent a few days in Paris prior to getting here.  After a shower and dinner, I have had the pleasure of meeting several missionaries and doing some emails and now writing this blog.

We hope to encourage our partners in the Gospel.  I know our worship team will do a great job.  we pray for all of our health and enthusiasm.  I know that so many have great concern about the spiritual coldness in Europe.  As I shared with one of my new friends, he expressed his concern about his people and I had to share with him the concerns that I have about our country.  I am looking forward to preaching for the Lord’s glory and the blessing of Him upon the hearers this week.

I am greatly looking forward to getting back in the pulpit to continue our series on Sufficiency.  I am so convinced that this message will change our lives if we can understand it and apply it and grow in His grace.  I am beginning to fade so I better go.  Until next time. . .Wes
