I have discovered Face Book this week or rather it has discovered me. Much like this blog business, it was not by my initiative that it all began. I was contacted by my wife with her new facebook. My good buddy Mark V. had already tried to get me on it, but for some reason unknown to me I was unable to make it. It has been surprising to me how many of my friends have a facebook. Enough of the facebook stuff.
We have been very busy these past few days. It seems like everything is accelerating (as usual). God is doing some great things as He always is. Lisa and I will be celebrating another anniversary on Friday. Its hard to believe that we have been married as long as we have because it seems just like yesterday that I met this great looking 18 year old Ouachita bound girl from Camden. I can say without hesitation that she has been the very best thing outside of Jesus Christ that has ever happened to me. She has multiplied my ministry in ways that only heaven knows. She has challenged me to be, do, believe, etc. in ways that I never would have. I have often told our boys that they cannot fully appreciate how great a lady and person their mother is. I hope that they do or will know that one day. I have seen her serve and befriend people consistently over a long period of time. I have heard from her years as a college student working for H. D. McCarty until these days of how she is “sweet, kind, and caring.” I cannot think of a lady in any church where I have served who has been a more faithful witness in sharing the Gospel with lost people. She has never begrudged the toll that ministry, seminary (2 degrees over 8 years), moving and starting over, growing churches and staffs, building projects, etc. have taken on our family. She is the most forgiving person that I have ever known (good for me!) I have often said and continue to say that she is the best Christian that I have ever known for more reasons than this space can contain. She has been my best friend without even a close second. I love her so much and honor her in this post today.
A great book that I would recommend for all of us is Margins by Richard Swenson. Great book for addressing the need for balance emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
I am headed to Belgium on Sunday afternoon to preach for our Western Cluster IMB staff. I will be joined by my son Jonathan who will play the drums along with our awesome worship pastor Mark M. along with Lisa A., Brian, and Jeanna. The ABSC staff will be taking care of child care and children’s ministry for this event. It is great to partner with them.
Pray for my brother Mike as he continues to have complications from surgery that removed 40% of his liver and his gall bladder. He has spent most of the month in the hospital in Memphis and is back in. He is a great guy with a great wife Tracy and pray for his kids Lauren and Wesley.
Until next time. . .Wes

Today has been a busy Wednesday. We have had an eventful few days after returning from Destin. We arrived home at 10 pm Sunday night to discover our upstairs air conditioning unit was not working. The temperature was 130 degrees in Jonathan’s room. Needless to say, he slept on the couch a couple of nights until we got the AC repaired. We borrowed a couple of fans to get the temperature down some.
Yesterday, our washing machine flooded in our laundry room, ran into the kitchen and into the pantry underneath the wall into the hall with carpet while Lisa was out with the boys and some friends swimming. We are so smart that after I got in from the NWA Bible Conference around 8:30 pm; we decided to fill it up again so I could see it flood the house again. There is more to all this story but I don’t have the time or energy to relive it.
I do want to commend my good friend Stuart Bell at FBC Centerton for hosting this NWA Bible Conference. He had great speakers who I have had the privilege of knowing most of them. I was only able to hear Tom Elliff and Bob Pittman, but it was a blessing to be a part of what I could attend. NWA is blessed to have a number of high quality churches and pastors who truly preach God’s Word.
Tonight, we had a parents meeting to talk through the Fall schedule and transition for our teenagers and Wade Tomlinson. Wade has been with us for 5 1/2 years as our student pastor. God has called he and Susan along with Addie Mae, Wesley, and Brooks to go to China and work with college students through the IMB. It was my privilege to close out our prayer time for Wade. Wade is an excellent speaker who I love to hear pray. He has a kind and gentle spirit. I am sure that I will have more to say about his departure as it approaches in December. Wade is a good man who will be missed by many and I am one of the many.
The great thing about ministry is all the great people you get to serve along side in the journey. It is a journey. Nothing stays the same. You are never sitting still. Time moves, the earth revolves, culture changes. Opportunities come and go. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His Word endures forever. His Gospel does not change. The kingdom is all about the King who says His kingdom is about people who need to change and His Word that never changes but is the instrument for change. Until next time. . .Wes

Our family has enjoyed 4 days on the beach in Destin, FL. Time flies when you are having fun. It has been nice to have some time with our kids before our schedules get so busy again. No one got too much sun. Lisa and I are past the age of sun bathing (baking). It’s amazing how many people from Arkansas are here. I met the pastor from Christian Life Cathedral in Fayetteville. He was on his first day of a month off. How many of us are jealous?
Caleb, Aaron, Benjamin, and I went fishing with a guide. Jonathan elected to sleep in and sit it out. We caught our limit of black snapper and Caleb caught his limit of king mackerel before Benjamin, Aaron, and I began to get sick and we had to move to calmer waters in the bay.
One book that I finished reading was Margin. I highly recommend the book to anyone suffering from a busy schedule and the stress that results from not having margin in your life. The challenge is transferring the great information to apply to your personal schedules.
From the book, the Bible, and some reflection time, I anticipate a sermon series on the horizon on simplicity and/or authenticity. Jesus certainly lived a simple and authentic life. I am looking forward to finishing up our series on Reaching Generation Next Now and then beginning a series on Sufficiency. Better go since technically, I am on vacation. Until next time. . .Wes
